in the morning

A gay nudist village to call home.

Uncommon Ground Village is a place we’re creating where gay men can live openly, naked and at ease. Some of us would make our homes here year round, and friends would come for a season or a visit. It doesn’t exist yet. We’re forming the community now, and these are honest answers to the questions people ask us most.

A village, not a vacation.

A naturist resort is somewhere you visit. Uncommon Ground is meant to be somewhere you live: your own front door, gardens, a lively common house and neighbors who know you. There’s room for company when you want it and quiet when you don’t.

Naturist or nudist? Use whichever word feels like yours. Either way, we mean being naked as an ordinary part of everyday life, without shame about our bodies.

An imagined village courtyard: small homes around a shared dining pavilion, with gardens and an old shade tree.
An imagined courtyard. This generated concept is one possibility, not a chosen site or design.

Questions people ask.

Who is it for?

Gay men who’d love to live openly, naked and at ease among friends. Whether you’ve been a naturist for decades or you’re simply curious, you’re welcome in the conversation.

Would I be naked all the time?

Being naked is meant to be an ordinary part of everyday life here, so you can step outside and enjoy the land as you are. Nobody should have to prove their commitment to naturism by putting up with discomfort, and the details are ours to work out together.

Outdoor life through the seasons

What about intimacy and boundaries?

There’s room for affection and intimacy, with respect for each person’s privacy and boundaries. Being naked isn’t an invitation to touch, sex or photographs, and saying no should never make anyone feel less welcome.

Where will it be?

We haven’t chosen a location. Riverside County, the Tucson area, Eugene and Durham are where we’d begin a focused property search today, and other places are still being considered.

See where we’re looking

Could I afford to retire there?

There’s no price yet, and no rent or buy-in has been agreed. I want it to be within reach of people with different resources, including men living on modest retirement incomes, and to stay a good home as we grow older.

How we’re thinking about cost

When could I move in?

There’s no move-in date. Right now we’re comparing places and working out how homes, money and decisions would work. Joining the conversation doesn’t commit you to move or buy anything.

How we could begin

Somewhere to go while it takes shape.

Our naturist directory lists gay naturist gatherings, clubs and places to stay, along with gay nudist Facebook groups by area. It’s a good way to find your people in the meantime.

Come help shape it.

I’m Max Xiong. I started Uncommon Ground with Randy and friends, and more than 550 people have joined our Facebook group. If you can picture living here, visiting or helping us build it, I’d love to hear from you.
